About the AuthorDiane L. Potter, EdD, is professor of physical education at Springfield
College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
A teacher with over 40 years of
experience in physical education, Dr. Potter also coached the Springfield
College softball team for 21 years.
In addition, she was a player for 15
years in Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Class A Fast-Pitch.
Potter has been an international clinician in softball, conducting
clinics in Italy and The Netherlands and taking teams to The Netherlands
in 1971, 1975, and 1982.
In 1982, she was awarded the Silver Medallion by
the Koninklijke Nederlandse Baseball en Softball Bond (the Royal Dutch
Baseball and Softball Association); she is the only woman so honored.
Dr. Potter is an outstanding leader in women's sport; she has served as
a member of the AIAW Ethics and Eligibility Committee and was inducted into
the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame
in 1986.
Gretchen A. Brockmeyer, EdD, is Vice President for Academic
Affairs at Springfield College. She has been a teacher- educator for over
20 years, with primary responsibility for secondary physical education
methods and supervision of field-based teaching.
An inductee to the
Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame, Brockmeyer has applied her coaching
talents to many sports beyond softball, including swimming, basketball,
field hockey, and tennis.
In 1990, she was named the College Level Teacher
of the Year by the Eastern District Association for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and Dance.
Brockmeyer served as assistant coach
for the Springfield College softball team for seven years. She is
committed to helping her students become physical educators who possess
the skills and the professional commitment necessary to provide meaningful
learning opportunities for those they teach.
