Washington Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor left Saturday's game against Carolina with a sprained right knee.

The six-time Pro Bowl pick, acquired in a trade with Miami last month, was hurt when his leg bent awkwardly after he ended up in the middle of the pile following DeAngelo Williams' 5-yard run.

Washington Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels injured a left knee ligament Sunday during the first practice of training camp and could miss the upcoming season, a person within the NFL said.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Redskins had not yet made an official announcement about the nature of Daniels' injury.


 

Nationals RHP Cordero out for season (AP)

Washington Nationals closer Chad Cordero is out for the season with a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Cordero will have surgery on the shoulder, which has been bothering him all season.

The date for the procedure has not been set. Cordero has pitched in only six games, allowing one run in 4 1-3 innings.


 

Wizards' Arenas expected to play Monday (AP)

Washington guard Gilbert Arenas is expected to play in Game 2 of the Wizards' series against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night despite a sprained right wrist.

Arenas scored 24 points in the opener, but apparently hurt his wrist in the fourth quarter while fouling LeBron James.

Arenas was already slowed by a surgically repaired knee.


 

Senators ask NBA to delay Sonics vote (AP)

Washington's two U.S. senators are asking the NBA to delay its scheduled vote on whether the Seattle SuperSonics can move to Oklahoma City.

In a letter to NBA commissioner David Stern, Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell say the Sonics' Oklahoma City owners apparently weren't acting in good faith while trying to get a deal for a new arena in Seattle.
