The son of North Carolina State basketball coach Sidney Lowe plans to plead guilty to a dozen charges connected to a March 2007 home invasion.

Greensboro attorney Locke Clifford said 23-year-old Sidney Lowe II will plead guilty Monday afternoon to six counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping.

Tennessee signed football coach Phillip Fulmer and basketball coach Bruce Pearl to new deals Wednesday that will keep them with the Volunteers through 2014.

Fulmer's deal is worth an average of nearly $3 million over the next seven seasons, and the nearly $1 million raise makes him the fourth-highest paid coach in the Southeastern Conference.


 

IU: Sampson shouldn't have been hired (AP)

Indiana University's president told the NCAA infractions committee that the hiring of ousted basketball coach Kelvin Sampson was "a risk that should not have been taken." Indiana athletic director Rick Greenspan will resign at the end of December amid new NCAA allegations that the school failed to monitor the men's basketball team.

The NCAA said former basketball coach Kelvin Sampson committed five major recruiting violations during his 1 1/2 years at the school.

Calhoun treated for skin cancer, will keep coaching

Connecticut basketball coach Jim Calhoun says he is being treated for his second bout of skin cancer in a year, and he wants to keep coaching.

The 66-year-old Hall of Famer says a lump removed from his neck on May 6 was malignant. He is to undergo six weeks of radiation treatments next month.

His doctors say there should be no long-term effects from the radiation. They expect him to return to a normal lifestyle, including coaching.

Calhoun has spent 21 seasons at UConn, with two NCAA titles.
