Baylor out as Clips executive; Dunleavy to take over

Elgin Baylor is out as vice president of basketball operations with the Los Angeles Clippers, and coach Mike Dunleavy will assume his responsibilities as general manager.

"We greatly appreciate Elgin's efforts during his time with the Clippers, and we wish him the very best," Clippers owner and chairman of the board Donald T.

Sterling said in a statement Tuesday.

Give any basketball operations guru a prospect with an NBA body -- just the right combination of height, wingspan, strength, speed, quickness, leaping ability -- and drooling will ensue.

So what if the player shot 41 percent from the floor and never took a shot beyond eight feet from the basket?

Michael Curry will be the next coach of the Detroit Pistons after having played for the team and worked as an assistant.

Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars tells The Associated Press that Curry will be introduced at a news conference on Tuesday.

Curry agreed to a three-year deal worth $2.5 million a year, with the team holding the option for a fourth season.

Donnie Walsh is the new president of the New York Knicks, and he says he'll wait a few days before deciding on Isiah Thomas' future with the organization.

The Knicks hired the longtime Indiana Pacers executive Wednesday. The New Yorker was given complete power to oversee basketball operations of a team finishing its seventh straight losing season.

New York never won a playoff game under Thomas, its president since December 2003. He became coach in June 2006.
