Rivers: Garnett suspension 'ridiculous' (AP)

Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers wasn't too happy about being forced to play without All-Star Kevin Garnett against the New York Knicks.

Garnett was suspended for one game for hitting Milwaukee's Andrew Bogut in the face near the end of Saturday's game.

"I was surprised. I thought it was a ridiculous suspension," Rivers said before Tuesday night's game against the Knicks.

The Boston Celtics have extended the contract of coach Doc Rivers, who led the team to its first championship in 22 years.

Rivers guided the Celtics to a 66-16 regular season record and the franchise's 17th title last season. It was the biggest single-season turnaround in league history, following Boston's 24 wins the year before.


 

Hornets sign Posey to 4-year, $25M deal
