Phillies 2B Utley may be out until May (AP)

Philadelphia Phillies All Star second baseman Chase Utley and starting third baseman Pedro Feliz (FAY'-leez) will undergo surgery within the next week.

Utley will have hip surgery next week and could resume baseball activity in three to four months. He was bothered by a right hip problem during the season, but still managed to lead all second basemen with 33 home runs and 104 RBIs.

Chase Utley hit a two-run homer and Cole Hamels pitched out of trouble several times, giving the Philadelphia Phillies a 3-2 lead over the Tampa Bay Rays after six innings in the World Series opener Wednesday night.

Carl Crawford homered for the Rays and Akinori Iwamura had an RBI double in the fifth, his third hit of the game.

Morneau completes Home Run Derby field (AP)

Minnesota's Justin Morneau was selected for All-Star Home Run Derby, completing the eight-man field for Monday night's contest at Yankee Stadium.

He joins Tampa Bay rookie Evan Longoria, Texas' Josh Hamilton and Cleveland's Grady Sizemore from the American League.

The NL derby lineup has Houston's Lance Berkman, Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, Florida's Dan Uggla and Philadelphia's Chase Utley.


 

Utley, Hamilton, 3 more set for HR Derby

Home run leaders Chase Utley and Grady Sizemore, and major league RBIs leader Josh Hamilton are among the players who will be in the All-Star home run derby.

Lance Berkman and Dan Uggla also will be in the July 14 contest at Yankee Stadium, the commissioner's office said Monday.

Utley entered Monday with a major league-leading 24 homers for Philadelphia, and Sizemore topped the AL with 22 for Cleveland.
