Kemba Walker scored 23 points and Jeff Adrien added 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead No. 2 Connecticut to a hard-fought 89-81 victory over La Salle on Friday in the Paradise Jam.

The Huskies trailed in the early minutes, but were up 46-40 at halftime under the leadership of guard A.J.

Price. They never trailed in the second half, leading by as many as 10 points.


 

Austrie, Walker help No. 2 UConn roll (AP)

Craig Austrie and freshman Kemba Walker scored 21 points each and No. 2 Connecticut ran away from Hartford 99-56 on Monday night, the Huskies' 63rd consecutive win against an instate opponent.

Walker, who started in place of injured A.J. Price, had five rebounds, while Jerome Dyson added 18 points and Jeff Adrien had 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Washington coach Tyrone Willingham says he will step down at the end of the 2008 season. The Huskies fell to 0-7 on Saturday after a 33-7 loss to Notre Dame.

Willingham and athletic director Scott Woodward made the announcement at a news conference Monday. Willingham has been under fire for being unable to turn around the Washington program.

He is 11-32 overall in his four seasons.

The NCAA tournament isn't supposed to be this easy for Maya Moore - even if it always seems that way for Connecticut.

The Huskies' star freshman had 25 points and 11 rebounds in her second straight 20-point postseason performance, leading top-seeded UConn past Old Dominion 78-63 in a Greensboro Regional semifinal Sunday.

Renee Montgomery added 13 points for the Huskies (35-1), who never trailed, shot 47.5 percent and put the game away with a 20-1 run early in the second half.

Connecticut's four seniors have never been to the Final Four. To get there before their college careers end, the Huskies must potentially get past Big East rival Rutgers in the Greensboro Regional.

The No. 1 seeded Huskies (32-1) will open against No. 16 Cornell on Sunday in Bridgeport, Conn. Other No. 1 seeds are North Carolina, Tennessee and Maryland.
