U.S. basketball team is more about marketing than Games

This year's team is pretty darned good. Other than Jason Kidd, there isn't a player on the roster who's not either in the prime of his career or just now entering it.

I know the 1992 team goes down as the greatest ever assembled (as it probably should) but wouldn't this team give that team a run for it's money?

The knee-jerk reaction is to say, "No way. Look at all the Hall of Famers on that team."

Jannero Pargo's reaction to Jason Kidd's flagrant foul summed up the growth of the Hornets' confidence as they took a 3-1 lead in their first-round playoff series with the Dallas Mavericks.

"We didn't want him to get suspended," Pargo said after practice Monday. "We want them to be at full strength and have their best team out there on the floor, so that way, if we get the win, it won't be tainted...


 

NBA opts not to suspend Kidd for flagrant foul

Jason Kidd won't be suspended for his flagrant foul on New Orleans' Jannero Pargo, meaning the Mavericks will have their starting point guard Tuesday night when they try to avoid elimination Tuesday night in Game 5.

Kidd's takedown of Pargo drew an automatic ejection. The NBA reviewed the play Monday and determined further punishment wasn't necessary, league spokesman Tim Frank said.

The play came with 7:16 left in the Hornets' 97-84 victory Sunday. Dallas trails 3-1 in the first-round series.

Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks is out indefinitely with a high ankle sprain and a mildly sprained knee.

It's a blow to the Mavericks' title hopes - and perhaps their chances of making the playoffs. The team announced the diagnosis Monday, the day after the reigning MVP was injured during a game against San Antonio.

The Mavs have lost three straight, continuing a spiral since adding Jason Kidd.
