Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has a slight tear in his right knee, a probable cause of his sudden power loss, and the 14-time All-Star was expected to soon decide on the best course of action.

New York manager Joe Girardi revealed the injury before Saturday's game against Tampa Bay and said Rodriguez was out of the lineup.

New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia left the game against the Florida Marlins in the second inning with tightness in his left bicep.

A team trainer went out to look at Sabathia while he was warming up for the inning. He gave up a one-out double to Brett Carroll, then Yankees manager Joe Girardi and a team trainer went out to check on the left-hander again before taking him out of the game.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi accused Boston's Brad Penny of deliberately hitting Alex Rodriguez with a pitch.

Rodriguez was hit in the back in the first inning Thursday night at Fenway Park, prompting umpires to warn both teams.

The Red Sox went on to win 4-3 and improved to 8-0 against the Yankees this season.
