Czech left-hander Petra Kvitova stormed back from a set down to beat Samantha Stosur 5-7 6-3 6-3 in a topsy turvy first semi-finals at the WTA Championships in Istanbul and is now one win away from a dream end to a spectacular season.

Andy Pettitte is staying with the New York Yankees, agreeing to an $11.75 million, one-year contract. The deal Wednesday represents a raise for the 37-year-old left-hander, who made $10.5 million last season and helped the Yankees win their 27th World Series title.

Pettitte became the first pitcher to start and win the clincher in all three postseason rounds.

Game 3 of the World Series between the Yankees and Phillies was to start about 9:15 p.m. following a rain delay, the second consecutive year wet weather affected the schedule in Philadelphia.

Andy Pettitte was set to pitch Saturday night for New York against fellow left-hander Cole Hamels in a game that originally was slated for 7:57 p.m.
