The new-look Detroit Pistons still have the Los Angeles Lakers' number.

Rasheed Wallace had 25 points and 13 rebounds while Allen Iverson added 25 points as Detroit (7-2) handed the Lakers their first loss of the season, 106-95, Friday night.

The Los Angeles Lakers had a surprisingly easy time staying undefeated. Only a 'Super' effort kept the Atlanta Hawks from joining them.

Paul Pierce made a jumper with 0.5 seconds left to give the Boston Celtics a 103-102 victory over Atlanta on Wednesday night, handing the Hawks their first loss of the season.

The Hawks (6-1) provided another tough test for the Celtics, just as they did in going the distance against the eventual champions in the first round of last season's playoffs.


 

Blazers C Oden says he's ready to return (AP)

Greg Oden says he's ready to play. The Portland Trail Blazers center says he'll play Wednesday night against the Miami Heat, even though the team is listing him officially as a game-time decision.

Oden has missed the Blazers' last six games because of a sprained right foot suffered in Portland's season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.


 

Lakers sign C Bynum to extension (AP)

The Los Angeles Lakers signed Andrew Bynum to a contract extension Thursday, removing the possibility the 21-year-old center would become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. "We're extremely happy to have signed Andrew to this extension, which will secure his immediate future with the franchise," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in a statement.


 

Blazers C Oden to miss 2-4 weeks (AP)

Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden will be out two-to-four weeks with an injury to his right foot. The team said Wednesday that an MRI and CT scan revealed Oden has a mid-lateral foot sprain.

Oden injured his foot in the first quarter of the Blazers' 96-76 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
