Joe Torre announced Friday he will retire as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are mired near the bottom of the NL West, and the team immediately said hitting coach Don Mattingly will replace him.

Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton likely will have to skip the All-Star game Tuesday because of an ailing big toe on his right foot.

Dodgers manager Joe Torre says they noticed Broxton limping after giving up two runs in Friday night's 12-8 extra innings win over the Brewers and "interrogated" him afterward.

Manny Ramirez might face his teammates in the next few days to address his 50-game suspension for using a banned drug.

Ramirez was absent from Dodger Stadium again Sunday, three days after he began serving a penalty imposed by Major League Baseball.

"He's still beat up by this thing," Los Angeles manager Joe Torre said Sunday, after speaking with Ramirez on Saturday.

After watching his team beat the Angels 1-0 without getting a hit Saturday night, manager Joe Torre couldn't recall a stranger game in his managerial career.

"That's about as bizarre as you can get," Torre said.
