Matt Cassel isn't on the Chiefs inactive list and could start against Oakland. He hasn't played in a game since injuring his left knee Aug. 29.

Cassel was a game-time decision last week in the season opener at Baltimore, but was held out. He had been looking sharper in practice last week while wearing a brace.

Quarterback Matt Cassel will not play in the Kansas City Chiefs' opener against the Baltimore Ravens because of a left knee sprain.

He was placed on the Chiefs' inactive list on Sunday. The Chiefs are expected to start fourth-year veteran Brodie Croyle.

Cassel injured the knee Aug. 29 in a preseason game against Seattle and did not return to practice until Monday.

The Kansas City Chiefs have fired Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator. The Chiefs said head coach Todd Haley would address Gailey's status with the team after Monday's practice.

The Chiefs had retained Gailey when Haley was hired in the offseason. The team is heading into the 2009 season with big questions about its offensive line, and the health of quarterback Matt Cassel.
