2009-10 NBA preview: New York Knicks

Topix - Sports News  Fri, 10/23/2009 - 00:26

It may be kind of hard to rebuild a team in New York City because the fans are so impatient for a winner.

However this may be a very long year for Knicks fans since it seems this team is intent of giving away the coming NBA season to strike it rich in the Free Agent market of 2010.

They have been cutting payroll and hope to clear enough space to land Lebron James, or Chris Bosh, or Dwayne Wade.

The New York Yankees did land CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, and AJ Burnett all in one off season, might the Knicks try to do the same?

2009-10 NBA preview: Indiana Pacers

Topix - Sports News  Mon, 10/19/2009 - 20:01

This is a team that has never recovered from the November, 2004 brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills versus the Detroit Pistons and their fans.

They recently rid, themselves of Jamaal Tinsley who was the last member of the Pacers involved in one of the most infamous acts in NBA history.

Remember it was Tinsley, once most the ruckus had settled down, who grabbed a dustpan and raised it over his head in an attempt to get back into the fight.

Kind of fitting that he was the last Pacer involved to be swept out of town.

2009-10 NBA preview: Charlotte Bobcats

Topix - Sports News  Sat, 10/17/2009 - 00:40

The are at least three questions that will define the Charlotte Bobcats season. The first is how long can Head Coach Larry Brown control in wanderlust?

The second is, can this rebuilt team finally start to win? The last question will how the proposed sale of this team will distract it during the season.

This will be Brown's second season with the Bobcats, but he return with only four players who began the 2008-09 season with him.

This team has undergone a major roster overhaul that has many feeling optimistic for the coming NBA season.

2009-10 NBA preview: Los Angeles Clippers

Topix - Sports News  Fri, 10/16/2009 - 23:55

The Los Angeles Clippers are one of those teams that always find a way to lose, rather than a way to win.

They are one of the most hapless NBA team ever, and after winning just 19 games last season there may not be any reason to believe that the Clippers will ever get it right.

Then again, with the addition of prize big man Blake Griffin maybe this season there is. After being in LA for 25 years, and having made the NBA post season just four times, maybe there is reason to believe in this team.

2009-10 NBA preview: Oklahoma City Thunder

Topix - Sports News  Thu, 10/15/2009 - 01:25

People seem to be pretty high on this team that only won 23 games a year ago. Of course that was three more than this team won in their final season as the Seattle Supersonics.

Since the team was sold, and GM Sam Presti came to town, only one player Nick Collison remains with the team.

Presti has gone through a somewhat painful tear it down and rebuild it plan that has suffered a lot of growing pains.

This is a team that is winning over the fans in Oklahoma, since they are the only pro team there, but this is a team with some more work to do.

2009-10 NBA preview: Golden State Warriors

Topix - Sports News  Tue, 10/13/2009 - 20:26

Depending on how one choose to look at this team; the Golden State Warriors are a young team on their way up, or a NBA team that will have to outscore their opponents because they have no one who can play defense.

Many of their fans are upset that the team parted ways with GM Chris Mullin. Mullin was the most popular player in this team's history and he has been replaced by Larry Riley, who happens to be a friend of Head Coach Don Nelson.

2009-10 NBA preview: Detroit Pistons

Topix - Sports News  Tue, 10/13/2009 - 00:57

No matter what the local spin is, this is a team that is either rebuilding or reloading for anther historic run in the NBA post season.

After reaching six straight Eastern Conference Finals the Pistons were swept out of the first round of last year's playoffs by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Over the summer there was much second guessing about the trade that sent Chauncey Billups to Denver for one Allen Iverson.

That is a move that clearly did not work, so Piston GM Joe Dumars had to go out and change the way his team is going to play.

2009-10 NBA preview: Utah Jazz

Topix - Sports News  Sat, 10/10/2009 - 01:41

The Utah Jazz front office and their fans often cite the summer of 2003 as the most difficult summer, this club has ever had to struggle through.

That year John Stockton retired, and Karl Malone left for the LA Lakers, while that was a tough one nothing could compare to the turmoil this team just had to suffer through in 2009.

The Jazz had to wait until late June to learn that Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur, and Kyle Korver had decided to play their final contract year with the team instead of trying to test a tepid free agent market.

2009-10 NBA preview: Atlanta Hawks

Topix - Sports News  Fri, 10/09/2009 - 01:05

After years of stockpiling high first round draft picks, the Atlanta Hawks were able to get themselves off the endangered NBA team list last year winning 47 games.

Their marketing department came up with the Now you Know slogan for the 2008-09 season, and now the questions seems to be now what?

This is a team with many young talented players who have been strengthened by the additions of Joe Johnson and Mike Bibby.

Ever since Head Coach Mike Woodson came to town in 2004 this has been a team on the rise.

2009-10 NBA preview: New Orleans Hornets

Topix - Sports News  Sun, 10/04/2009 - 22:19

Was it really just a year ago that this team was coming off their first ever divisional championship? Was it really a year ago that this team felt so solid about their roster that they essentially sold off their first round draft pick?

Head Coach Bryan Scott stated on draft night 2008 that this was a team of now. Coming off a disappointing 2008-09 season, where many had them winning the NBA title or at least the Western Conference, we must ask is this already a team of then?
