Yankees, AL East-leading Rays rained out (AP)

The final homestand at Yankee Stadium began Friday on a night as dreary as New York's season. The New York Yankees and AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays were rained out after a 1 1/2 -hour wait and will try to get in a day-night doubleheader Saturday.

"I think it should have been banged hours ago," Rays manager Joe Maddon said after sitting around watching it rain for several hours.

Phillies-Mets washed out by heavy rain (AP)

The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets will play a day-night doubleheader Sunday after heavy rain washed out Saturday's game between the top teams in the NL East.

A downpour pounded the New York area overnight, forcing the second matchup in the crucial three-game series to be pushed back a day.

The doubleheader opener will start at 2:15 p.m.
