Izturis goes on DL with sprained thumb

The Los Angeles Angels placed shortstop Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a sprained left thumb and recalled first baseman Kendry Morales from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Izturis aggravated the thumb diving for a ground ball in the ninth inning of Wednesday night's loss to Seattle.

He originally sprained the thumb Aug. 1 and missed eight of the next nine games, but didn't go on the DL.

Izturis, a switch-hitter, is batting .
