Sidney Crosby has an undisclosed injury, and it's unclear if the Pittsburgh Penguins star will be able to play Saturday night against St.

Louis. Crosby left Thursday night's game at Phoenix with five minutes left in the second period. After the game, a 4-1 loss by the Penguins, he would only say he had "some discomfort." Penguins spokesman Frank Buonomo would not not elaborate on the injury Friday.


 

Penguins, Therrien agree on 3-year deal (AP)

The Pittsburgh Penguins' march to the Stanley Cup finals has paid off for coach Michel Therrien. General manager Ray Shero says the team has agreed to terms on a new three-year contract for Therrien.

Therrien had one year left on his contract. The new deal includes a raise for this season, and goes through the 2010-11 season, slated to be the team's first in a planned $290 million arena.

Wrigley Field is going to be the frozen confines on New Year's Day 2009 when the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings meet the Chicago Blackhawks outdoors in the home park of the Chicago Cubs.

It will be the NHL's second Winter Classic. Last year in Buffalo, the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 before a crowd of 71,217.


 

Penguins sign G Fleury for 7 years, $35M (AP)

The Pittsburgh Penguins signed goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to a seven-year, $35 million dollar contract, the third long-term deal inked with one of their younger players in two days.

The Penguins did not immediately announce the deal, but Fleury's agent Allan Walsh said the team was expected to hold a news conference later in the day.

Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin has no intention of returning home to play in Russia, and the threat of a newly revamped Russian professional league using lucrative offers to poach talent is being dismissed by NHL officials.
