West signs deal with Cavs; holdout fears over

Guard Delonte West signed a multiyear deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday, ending concerns the restricted free agent would hold out at training camp.

General Manager Danny Ferry didn't disclose terms of the deal Friday. The Cavaliers acquired West from the Seattle SuperSonics on Feb. 21 as part of a three-team, 11-player trade.

West played in 61 games for Seattle and Cleveland and averaged 8.3 points. He filled a need for a starting point guard.

NBA owners have approved the Seattle SuperSonics' move to Oklahoma City for the 2008-09 season, pending the resolution of litigation between the team and the city of Seattle.

The Sonics could begin playing in owner Clay Bennett's hometown as early as next season if they can get out of the remaining two years of their lease at Key Arena.

Seattle has filed suit trying to force the Sonics to remain in the city until the lease expires in 2010, while Bennett wants to buy out the remainder.

Washington's two U.S. senators are asking the NBA to delay its scheduled vote on whether the Seattle SuperSonics can move to Oklahoma City.

In a letter to NBA commissioner David Stern, Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell say the Sonics' Oklahoma City owners apparently weren't acting in good faith while trying to get a deal for a new arena in Seattle.
