Jets WR Coles suffers another concussion (AP)

New York Jets wide receiver Laveranues Coles has a concussion and his status for the team's game against Kansas City was uncertain Thursday.

It's the third time in less than two years that Coles is dealing with a head injury. He had his streak of playing in 107 straight games end last November because of a concussion, and was briefly knocked unconscious when he was leveled by a hit by Miami's Zach...

Roger Federer rallied from 5-1 down in third set to defeat Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (1) Wednesday in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters.

The 12-time Grand Slam champion, who twice came within two points of defeat, won five straight games to take a 6-5 lead before heading to the tiebreaker.

Federer then won the match when the 137th-ranked Ramirez Hidalgo hit a forehand long. "He really pushed me," Federer said.

Blue Jays designated hitter Frank Thomas was livid Saturday after getting benched in favor of Matt Stairs and being told by manager John Gibbons he can expect further cuts to his playing time.

Thomas was hitless in his past 13 at-bats and has gone 4-for-35 since homering in three straight games April 5-8.

The 39-year-old Thomas signed a two-year, $18-million contract with Toronto in November 2006.


 

Crosby ruled out of Islanders game

Sidney Crosby ruled himself out for Monday night's game against the New York Islanders after skating with his teammates in the morning.

Crosby took the ice for the pregame skate at Nassau Coliseum and stayed out well after the rest of the Penguins went off to the dressing room.

Crosby's sprained right ankle has forced him to miss six straight games and 27 of 30. He said he feels better than he has in some time, but isn't in game condition yet.
