Joe Maddon easily won the American League Manager of the Year award Wednesday after guiding the Tampa Bay Rays from baseball's basement to the World Series.

Joe Maddon has won the American League Manager of the Year after guiding the Tampa Bay Rays from baseball's basement to the World Series.

Lou Piniella of the Chicago Cubs is the National League winner. Maddon succeeded Piniella as Tampa Bay manager in 2006.

He was an easy winner Wednesday in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Fall Classic? More like the Rainfall Classic. The threat of bad weather kept the World Series on hold Tuesday, leaving the Tampa Bay Rays stuck at a hotel in Delaware and the Philadelphia Phillies still close to a possible championship.

Sooner or later, the suspended Game 5 will resume in the bottom of the sixth inning with the score 2-all and someone will win this thing.

Just not yet. Besides, the baseball commissioner went home to Milwaukee. They'll try again Wednesday night at 8:37 p.m.

There is no rain in the forecast for tonight in Philadelphia. So that means that Game 5 of the World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Philadelphia Phillies should be completed tonight.

The World Series won't resume until Wednesday night at the earliest. With rain still falling in Philadelphia, Major League Baseball decided not to attempt to complete Game 5 between the Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.

The completion of the game tentatively was scheduled for 8:37 p.m. Wednesday.

There's no telling when we'll see the World Series again. Rain, rain made it go away Monday night. A steady downpour did in Game 5, suspending it in the sixth inning with the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays tied at 2.

They could play Tuesday night, but one look at The Weather Channel made that possibility doubtful.
