Tiger Woods is no longer on crutches since surgery last week on his left knee, but he said Friday in his monthly newsletter that he does not know when he will return.

"I knew a couple of months ago I was going to have the surgery," Woods said. "The knee has been bugging me for a while.

The only decision was do you miss the Masters or play in the Masters? I decided to play. Even if I had won, I still would have had the surgery.

LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux returned from a suspension, and hopes to be allowed soon to practice with the team.

LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette said Thursday that there is no timetable for Perrilloux, who finished last season as the expected heir apparent for the starting job, to return to the field.

"He's no longer suspended, which means he has some privileges back, but one of the privileges he's not been able to regain is the ability to practice with the team," Bonnette said.

Josh Beckett's back still is feeling stiff. Boston's ace right-hander had back spasms while warming up Saturday and left the mound before the game against Florida began.

Beckett appears likely to miss the opening trip to Japan for games against Oakland on March 25-26. Manager Terry Francona says he stressed to Beckett that there is no timetable for him to pitch.
