Wizards F Jamison sprains right knee (AP)

Washington Wizards forward Antawn Jamison left his team's preseason opener against the Dallas Mavericks with a sprained right knee.

Jamison's leg buckled while playing defense midway through the first quarter Tuesday night, and he had to be helped to the locker room by teammates.

A team spokesman said Jamison was out for the rest of the game.


 

Reports: Arenas takes less money to stay with Wiz

Gilbert Arenas has agreed to re-sign with the Washington Wizards for $111 million over six years, essentially taking millions less so that his team could have more financial flexibility, two newspapers reported Thursday.

Arenas told the Washington Times and Washington Post that he was offered a maximum deal in the neighborhood of $127 million on Tuesday, the first day of the free agency period.

Two-time All-Star forward Antawn Jamison re-signed with the Washington Wizards on Monday, agreeing to a four-year, $50 million deal.

"I just signed. We got it out of the way," Jamison told The Associated Press. The contract clears the way for the team to focus on its other major free agent: three-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas.


 

Collins considering Bulls' coaching job (AP)

CHICAGO (AP)-- Doug Collins talked with the Chicago Bulls about returning to the team as coach, but said Thursday there is no agreement.

Known for his emotional style, Collins also coached the Detroit Pistons and the Washington Wizards. The Bulls had been interested in Mike D'Antoni before he took the New York Knicks job.


 

Wizards' Songaila suspended for Game 6 (AP)

Washington Wizards reserve forward Darius Songaila was suspended by the NBA for Game 6 of a playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night for hitting LeBron James in the face with his hand.

Songaila, averaging 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 15.4 minutes during the series, and Wizards coach Eddie Jordan have said the contact was accidental.

Following Cleveland's 100-97 win in Game 4 on Sunday, James, who has absorbed two flagrant fouls in this rough-and-tumble playoff series and has been banged around by the Wizards, was asked about Washington's tough-guy tactics.
